Cabin in the Winter

Getting the cabin ready for a winter stay has more steps than in the spring, summer and fall.
The very first thing you need to do is start the wood stove. After the cabin is warm, go outside and crawl under the house using the door under the deck. Pull the light chain to your right and turn on the light. There is a blue turn valve just at the bottom and in front of the wate heater and pressure tank. Shut the valve all the way turning it clockwise. As you leave there is a lever valve to the left of the door before you exit. Make sure the lever is turned down perpendicular to the pipe.
Now that the water pipes are closed, go to the electric panel and turn on the pump breaker. Do not turn on the water heater yet. Open both hot and cold on the sink faucets until they run smoothly and the air is out of the pipes. Now you can turn the breaker to the water heater on. The plumbing is set for winter. Before you check out, put wood in the stove and turn down or close the draft and damper on the wood stove. The cleaning crew will take care of the plumbing.
